Equine Sports Medicine

Sports medicine is an area that applies medical and scientific knowledge to prevent, recognise, manage, and rehabilitate injuries in the equine athlete. The principle is to provide preventative medicine by regularly monitoring horses during their competitive career, identifying weaknesses and preventing injury. Resulting in better performance and longevity of the horse, as well as, reducing rest periods due to injury. Sports medicine applies to all types of horses whether they be for competitive or recreational purposes.

  • Lameness Exam: Horses can be assessed in their own environment where even subtle problems will be more apparent than in unfamiliar surroundings. The team is equipped with the highest quality imaging equipment, such as digital radiography and ultrasound, enabling efficient lameness diagnosis and treatment without the need for the horse to travel. In cases where yard facilities are not suitable for lameness examination horses can be assessed at our premises.
  • Pre-Purchase Exam: We offer a complete service for pre-purchase examinations of all types of horses and ponies. The thorough evaluation of health, fitness and soundness is performed with emphasis on the suitability of the horse for the prospective purchaser and the intended discipline. We regularly travel for pre-purchase exams throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. Alternatively, we can also provide a pre-purchase exam service through our network of trusted veterinarians in the USA and EU.
  • Back Problems: Back problems are often important factors limiting the welfare and performance of the horse. Our approach is to use orthopaedic knowledge combined with acupuncture and chiropractic to bring back comfort and motivation to affected horses. Differentiation between primary and secondary back-related pain is of key importance in order for us to provide treatment or management of the condition.
